Deconstructing the Soul of Senate: Malt Sensory Workshop with Lost Lagers

The event will begin with a short talk and panel exploring the art, history, and process of craft malting​ with the Museum’s research partners in the revival, Mike Stein & Pete Jones of Lost Lagers. Joining Lost Lagers will be Thor Cheston of DC’s award-winning brewery Right Proper, as well as Susan Hebble & Brad Humbert of Bear Branch Malt who will also discuss their craft maltings in Carroll County Maryland and growing agricultural beer ingredients. Following the discussion, guests will get hands​-on with a guided tasting workshop​. Participants will ​conduct three different malt steeps, including the malt used in Senate Beer,​ Senate ​M​a​erzen, and ​a selection from Bear Branch Malt. Taste, compare & discover how different malts shape the character of the beers ​you love.
